OFFSHORE- Solid springtime mixed bag action offshore again this week (in between the weather and storms). This is a great time of year to be offshore; with sailfish, dolphin, Blackfin Tuna, kingfish, wahoo, and more all being possible. In fact; a lot of first hand reports sound kind of like that right now... Not uncommon to hear, "Yeah it was a good day out there. We jumped a sail, had a couple dolphin, missed a couple kings, and stuck a nice Blackfin at the end of the day". Sailfish action has bounced around, but 175-250' remains pretty solid bet. Dolphin remain (quite literally) scattered across the ocean, pretty much anybody's guess on where you may find them. Typically this time of year the dolphin aren't in giant schools, but the average size of the fish tends to be a little larger. Trolling small ballyhoo, squid, and bonita strips is a good way to go for the dolphin. In along the 120' ledge kingfish action remains very good. Drifting dead sardines on a knocker rig or throat hooking live baits is the best bet for the kings. Snapper fishing was pretty good this week as well. A few nice muttons around, along with some very strong yellowtail numbers.
INSHORE- Snook fishing continues to improve inshore these days. A good amount of rain has had the spillways flowing and the snook are never one to miss out on that. Bridge action has also continued to improve as well. The snook are getting more aggressive by the day, and the bigger lures continue to work better and better. Flair Hawks and big swimbaits are getting more and more bites daily. Not as many big jacks inshore right now, but still a few bruisers around. A few local resident tarpon around as well. Mangrove snapper action has started to improve as well. Small live pilchards and live shrimp are the way to go for the mangroves.
SURF/PIER- Been a pretty good week of fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier again this week. While pompano action has started to slow down; a decent number of fish are still swimming through. Early early morning and late afternoon have been the best bet for the pomps. Sandfleas, clams, and FishBites remain the top bait choices for the pompano. Pompano action on the pier has slowed way down; but they are still picking away at some decent numbers on bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs. Been a lot of big jacks cruising through the end of the Pier. A Rapala X-Rap, GT Ice Cream, or diamond jig is a top lure choice for the big bruisers. Bring your heavy tackle and hold on when the jack come cruising through. A good number of kingfish around the pier as well this week. A size 12 or 14 Rapala X-Rap is the way to go for the kingfish; with the best action coming late in the afternoon. Snook action also continues to improve on a weekly basis. A good amount of bait around the pier already...looks like it should be a good summer!
