Juno Bait's "Weekend Fishing Outlook"

For Weekend of 12/20-12/22/24

OFFSHORE- Nice looking sailfish conditions headed into the weekend; especially on Saturday. Bigger live baits (goggle eyes and blue runners) under the kites, and threadfins on the flats will be the way to go for the sailfish. Best depth will likely be in the 130-225' range depending on water conditions. Should be some bigger dolphin mixed in with the sailfish, and don't be surprised to see some wahoo around on the backside of the full moon. Should be some kings in the mix as well. Look for most of the action to be in that same 120-300' range: This time of year most of the action will be in that depth range. Blackfin reports remain good up to the north. Live baits fished mid water column or a high speed vertical jig ripped up from the bottom is a great way to go for the tunas. Bottom fishing reports have been on the slower side; no doubt due to the weather.

INSHORE- Catch and release snook fishing has been fair inshore this week. The snook have been in the Loxahatchee River during the day, and around the bridges at night. In both cases try to fish moving water (can be incoming or outgoing tide) for best results. Snook are lazy and don't want to work too hard for a meal; instead they prefer to use the current to wash meals to them. As the water continues to cool off shrimp become a better and better option for the snook. Sheepshead have started to show up in little better numbers; and they should continue to improve in numbers as the water cools. Live shrimp and sand fleas will be top bait choices for the sheepshead.

SURF/PIER- A handful of pompano reports this week, with a few fish scattered along the beach and a few coming over the rails at the Juno Beach Pier. Sandfleas and FishBites have been the baits of choice for the pomps. Bright colored Doc's Goofy Jigs are the lure of choice for the pompano. A few scattered Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish around the Juno Beach Pier as well. White crappie jigs are the lure of choice for the Macs. The bluefish will bite a diamond jig, spoon, or swimming plug. The sharks have been found in solid numbers. Fresh chunks of bait are the can't miss way to go for the sharks. A fair number of croaker and whiting in the first trough on pieces of shrimp.

NOAA MARINE WEATHER:
FRI...NW winds 5 to 10 kt, increasing to 10 to 15 kt in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Wave Detail: N 3 ft at 5 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop.

SAT...N winds 10 to 15 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 7 seconds. Intracoastal waters light chop.

SAT NIGHT THROUGH SUN NIGHT...E winds 15 to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft, occasionally to 6 ft. Wave Detail: N 5 ft at 7 seconds and NE 3 ft at 4 seconds. Intracoastal waters choppy in exposed areas.
