OFFSHORE- Some good dolphin fishing over the past week, with some good size fish around. Depth reports bounced around a bit, but 150-300' was fairly good this week. Trolling bonita strips and squid has been a solid way to go for the dolphin. Sailfish action has started to heat up; with most boats putting in some effort getting at least a few chances. Did hear of a few boats catching more than five...starting to get going and nice looking conditions for them going into the weekend. Snapper reports were very good this week, including some really nice mutton snapper. A few kingfish scattered along the 120' ledge.
INSHORE- Snook fishing reports remain good inshore. The Loxahatchee River has been hot, especially for the early morning topwater bite. Seawalls with some current flow are the best bet in the river. The snook are also biting well around the bridges at night. Flair haws are working well for the snook; but we are quickly approaching shrimp jig season. A few small tarpon still moving around inshore, but the numbers have fallen off with most off the mullet moving on.
SURF/PIER- Pretty solid fishing along the beach and at the Juno Beach Pier this week. The water didn't look great; but despite that pretty good amount of fish around. Bluefish, including some full grown ones, have been around in good numbers this week. Best action will be early morning and late afternoon; especially for the very entertaining topwater bite. The bluefish will also generally bite spoons, diamond jigs, and swimming plugs as the sun gets higher in the sky. The Juno Beach Pier has had a good number of Spanish Mackerel around. White crappie jigs are the lure of choice for the Macs; but small X-Raps and small flashy metal jigs will work well too. With all the bluefish and Spanish Macs around...expect a few big kingfish to be in the mix as well. Pompano reports have been fair this week. Most of the pomps have been on the small side; but a handful of keepers in the mix. The usual bait (sandfleas, clams, shrimp, Fishbites) are all working for the pompano. Nice looking conditions gong into the weekend, should be some pretty good fishing.
